Following a post on the Somethingawful forums about the Star Wars hotline I decided to phone it using my VoIP setup as its dirt cheap to call the USA, after a few attempts I got through…
Apparently theirs about 100+ people queuing for the new Star Wars movie outside a cinema on Hollywood Blvd in LA and they take it in turns to man the payphone they also take note of where you got the details to phone them and what country your from.
For anyone interested in calling the hotline you dial 0013234629609 calling from Ireland
The killdozer has been destroyed, personally I think it should have been kept like the historic society wanted especially considering how much work he put into it.
May it rest in peace….
Finally I got a answer from my ISP about why I can’t port my existing PSTN line number to my VoIP provider, it would appear that Eircom my telco provider uses the number as a line identifier and although Comreg (Irish Telco Regulator) have demanded they change their system Eircom has decided to take Comreg to court on that matter.
Anyway because of this I’m going to get my ISP to unbundle my line anyway (this will leave my current PSTN line number in limbo) and I’m going to go with the phone number my VoIP provider has assigned me.
This evening I invested in a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) to VoIP phone adaptor that will allow me to connect a standard POTS phone to my router which will then connect to my VoIP provider.
I guess I’ll see how things go from here….
Ok yes I know its old but its the first time I’ve used it
This simple extention for windows explorer creates a virtual drive that is linked to your Google GMail account…all 2GB+ of it.
Basically you can use GMail for storing images, videos etc and they can easily be accessed via the standard gmail.com interface.
The extention is available here and here’s what it looks like. ![]()
In recent months I’ve been looking into replacing my standard line (provided by Eircom) with a VoIP service that provies incoming calls…I started off with Skype but sadly as good as it is it doesn’t allow incoming calls in Ireland infact they’ve only started testing Incoming calls in the USA, France, China and the UK last month
So today I found out about Blueface.ie, it allows incoming calls via local numbers provided to Dublin, Galway & Waterford city and when it finally goes live it will assign the new 076 VoIP prefix to all users on its freedom basic and freedom plus packages. I’ve been testing it for the past few hours and I have to say overall I’m extremely impressed as the sound quality is very good and with the exception of a very slight delay its better then Skype.
I called their tech support twice so far and its been all good, I’ve been informed that I can port my current landline phone number to my VoIP service if I wish (this takes a max of 16 days apparently properly longer as Eircom have to do the admin work)
Since Mac World in back in January I’ve been thinking of buying a Mac Mini but after further consideration I’ve decided a laptop would get far more use, the powerbook in question I’ve decided to purchase is a Powerbook 12″ with a Superdrive. Its expensive but its worth it compared to a Mac Mini.
For starters just look at it..
