It would seem AOL may be bringing Netscape slowly back from the dead, Mozillaquest.org is reporting that Netscape Desktop Navigator is in Beta at the moment early reports of this tool did mention it was using the IE browser engine but it *seems* that it is now using Mozilla, there has also been romours of AOL/Netscape bringing out Netscape 7.2 (last release was last year) it would seem this is also based on Mozilla (apparently Mozilla 1.7 build).
It would be great to see Netscape make a comeback as long as it’s not like version 6.0
but for now I’ll stay with Mozilla
Well it seems Lindows is giving up and who can blame them they hardly have a unlimited supply of money to fight against Microsoft in every court in every country in the world, Lindows has changed its name to Linspire.
It has also released its new’est revision Linspire 4.5.
You can get your free copy of Linspire 4.5 (worth $50) by going to http://www.linspire.com/btorder and entering LINDOWS as the coupon name, you’ll need Bittorrent to download it and its about 600MB ![]()
I did once install Lindows 1.0 on a Pentium 333Mhz with 64MB Ram, very user friendly to install and use but ran like crap! still in saying that it would be fine on up-to-date PC’s that are being sold these days so it would be good for a newbie or somebody that don’t want to pay for WindowsTM.
Slashdot.org are covering a interesting story on the ILUD (Irish Linux User Group) mailing list about a scammer being caught sending out e-mails (think Nigerion 419 type of scam) Its a interesting story and its nice to see the Gardai (Irish Police) doing some good in this respect.
News stories started circulating about google’s new gmail e-mail service on April 1st so many people thought at first it was some kind of April fools day joke, it would seem not!
So is this the beginning of the e-mail wars?, we’ve all heard of the browsers wars back in the mid-ninities and there was a search engine skirmish of
sorts over the past couple of years so is this the start of a all out war of e-mail providers.
When you consider that hotmail only provides its users with 2MB of webspace and yahooMail only allows 6MB of webspace whats to stop a mass-migration of both there users to a @gmail.com e-mail address?
Yes its a inconvienence to change e-mail addresses but when many users see the benefits of having so much space and if Google’s gmail service allows IMAP &/or POP3 access in the future for free or with a small fee its still a excellent deal even without such a feature
Will this new e-mail service force the likes of hotmail to provide a good quality service? I hope so, but I for one will be staying with my e-mail provider myrealbox.com
OSNews & Slashdot are reporting a review that Linux.com are running about the preview version of SUSE Linux 9.1 thats due out in May this year..
I’ve been using SUSE 9.0 for awhile now and I must say its very polished and well worth the money I spent on it (I must be crazy doing that eh?) none the less I felt it was worth the money and I’ve liked SUSE since 8.0 Pro.
